An Indigenous Perspective on Hawai’i reopening for visitors
Hawai’i reopens to visitors today, long famous as a destination of white sand beaches and legendary surf breaks but what do the locals think about people returning?
We talk to three Hawaiian experts: Dr Keao NeSmith, Kumu Micah Kamohoalii and Leihua Stewart and ask their opinions about:
- The social effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Hawaiian indigenous community and a return to indigenous ways of thinking
- The Economic impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Hawai’i
- How visitors to Hawai’i can better respect the local indigenous culture
- How people can maintain their connection to Hawai’i if they don’t feel comfortable travelling
